Who is a registered electrician in Stellenbosch?

heyhome has an in-house registered electrician covering Stellenbosch and the surrounding Winelands. We issue electrical Certificates of Compliance for property transfers, and handle fault-finding, repairs, DB boards, new circuits, plugs and lighting. Plumbing and aircon are in-house as well, so one company covers the job instead of three. Every job is quoted in writing before work begins. Phone 077 293 6863.

On a transfer COC specifically: because the inspection and the remedial work are the same company, the conveyancer is not left waiting on one firm to repair what another firm failed.

Start here

What are your electrics doing?

Find the one that matches. It will not fix it, but it will tell you roughly what you are dealing with before anyone quotes you — which is the whole point.

One breaker keeps tripping

The same switch in the DB board goes off, and everything else in the house is fine.

Usually: one appliance on that circuit, or an overloaded circuit. Which breaker it is narrows it to one part of the house.

The earth leakage trips

The big switch goes and takes half the house with it, often after rain or in the morning.

Usually: moisture in an outside plug or light, a failing geyser element, or an appliance leaking to earth.

Dead plugs in one room

A room or a wall of plugs has no power, but the lights and the rest of the house are fine.

Usually: a failed plug point feeding the rest of the run, or a loose connection cooking quietly behind a faceplate.

You are selling and need a COC

The agent or conveyancer has asked for an electrical Certificate of Compliance.

Usually: a certificate older than two years, or work done since. We inspect, quote what fails, and issue it.

Lights flicker or dim

Lights dip when the kettle or the pool pump comes on, or flicker for no obvious reason.

Usually: a loose connection, an undersized circuit, or a supply problem. Worth looking at early — loose connections get hot.

Burning smell or scorch marks

A hot faceplate, a browning plug point, or a smell you cannot place near the board.

Usually: a loose connection arcing. Switch that circuit off and phone rather than waiting — this is the one that starts fires.

What we do

Three trades, one company

Electrical, plumbing and aircon are all our own people. That matters on the jobs that cross trades — an aircon install is electrical work as well as refrigeration, and a geyser is plumbing plus a connection that has to be certified.

COC

Certificates of Compliance

Inspection, a written quote for anything that fails, the repair once you approve it, and the certificate issued by our own registered electrician. For transfers, and for work we have completed.

Repairs

Fault-finding & repairs

Tripping breakers, earth leakage faults, dead plug points, flickering lights, failed circuits. We find what is actually wrong rather than replacing parts until it stops.

Boards

DB boards & new circuits

Distribution board replacements and upgrades, earth leakage units, additional plug points, lighting and outdoor circuits — certified on completion.

Also in-house

Plumbing

Plumbing

Geysers, leaks, and the everyday plumbing that usually means a second phone call to a second company. Our own team, with the certificate where the work needs one.

Aircon

Air conditioning

Supply, installation, servicing and repairs — with the electrical side handled by the same company rather than handed off halfway through the job.

Gate motors and garage door automation are a separate line of work — see gate motors in Stellenbosch. For the smaller jobs and on-site welding repairs, see handyman and welding.

Selling a house

The COC, without the back-and-forth

The usual version of this goes: one company inspects, fails it, and hands you a list. You then find a second company to do the repairs. Then the first one comes back to re-inspect. The transfer waits for all three visits. We do the whole thing.

Nine out of ten houses fail, almost always on the lighting. If you are selling, read what actually fails an electrical COC and what it costs — including why the best time to start is six months before you list.

We inspect the installation

Our own registered electrician goes through the installation and tells you plainly what complies and what does not.

You get one written quote

Everything that has to be put right, priced, in writing. Nothing starts until you say yes — and if it comes in cheaper, you pay the cheaper number.

We do the remedial work

Same company, usually the same visit where the work is small. No second contractor, no re-inspection fee for someone else's repair.

The certificate is issued

Sent to you, and to the agent or conveyancer if that is where it needs to go. Recorded against the property, so the next transfer is not starting from nothing.

Why us

Most home electrical work leaves nothing behind but an invoice.

Someone comes, something gets replaced, a handwritten invoice appears, and two years later nobody knows what was done, which circuit it was on, or whether the certificate still covers it. So the next person starts guessing — and you pay for the guessing.

We keep a documented service history for your home. Every visit, every part, every certificate, recorded in your Home Passport against the address. When the house is sold, that record is the difference between a smooth COC and a fortnight of phone calls.

See an example report

Everything written down

What was tested, what failed, what was replaced, which certificate covers it — kept against your address, not on a technician's phone.

People you would trust with your keys

Background-checked, uniformed, and they introduce themselves. You know who is arriving before they do.

We come back, and we finish

If a job needs a second visit, that visit happens. Half-finished work and a contractor who stops answering is the thing we exist to be the opposite of.

What it costs

We do not publish a price list, and here is the honest reason.

A COC inspection on a compliant house and one on a house with thirty years of additions are not the same job, and anyone who quotes you before seeing it is guessing at your expense. What we can promise is that you will never be surprised:

  • You hear the call-out fee before we leave — not when we hand you the invoice.
  • You get a written quote before any work starts, with parts and labour separated.
  • We do not begin work you have not approved. If you would rather think about it, that is fine.
  • If the job turns out cheaper than quoted, you pay the cheaper number.

Questions

Questions people actually ask

Short, straight answers. No sales pitch hiding inside them.

Can you issue an electrical Certificate of Compliance for a property transfer?

Yes. Our own registered electrician does the inspection, quotes for anything that fails, repairs it once you approve, and issues the Certificate of Compliance. Because the inspection and the remedial work are the same company, the conveyancer is not waiting on one firm to fix what another firm failed.

How long is an electrical Certificate of Compliance valid for?

Two years, provided no electrical work has been done on the installation since it was issued. If anything has been added or altered — a new plug, an outside light, a geyser replacement — a new certificate is needed for that work regardless of how recent the last one is.

Do I need a new COC if I already have one from when I bought the house?

If it is less than two years old and nothing electrical has been changed since, it may still be valid. In practice most sellers need a new one, because the certificate has aged past two years or because work has been done in the meantime. We will tell you which applies before quoting rather than automatically selling you a new one.

What happens if the inspection fails?

You get a written quote for exactly what has to be put right, and nothing is done until you approve it. A certificate cannot be issued for an installation that does not comply — no electrician can lawfully do that — so the repair is the route to the certificate. If the fix turns out cheaper than quoted, you pay the cheaper number.

Why does my electricity keep tripping?

If a single breaker trips, the fault is on that one circuit and is often a specific appliance. If the earth leakage unit trips instead, the usual causes are moisture in an outside plug or light, a failing geyser element, or an appliance leaking to earth. Which switch trips is the most useful thing you can tell us on the phone.

Do you do the plumbing and aircon as well, or just electrical?

All in-house. Plumbing and air conditioning are our own teams, not subcontracted. That matters most on jobs that cross trades — an aircon install is electrical work as well as refrigeration, and a geyser replacement is plumbing plus an electrical connection that has to be certified.

What does an electrician cost in Stellenbosch?

It depends on the work, and anyone quoting a figure before seeing it is guessing at your expense. We confirm the call-out fee before travelling, give a written quote before starting, and do not begin work you have not approved. If the job turns out cheaper than quoted, you pay the cheaper number.

How quickly can you get to me in Stellenbosch?

We aim to reach Stellenbosch homes the same day for electrical faults reported during business hours, Monday to Friday. If you have no power at all, or the fault involves burning smells, scorch marks or water, say so when you call and we will prioritise the visit.

Do you work with estate agents and conveyancers?

Yes, and that is a large part of the compliance work. We can deal with the agent or the conveyancer directly, send the certificate and the invoice where it needs to go rather than to whoever happened to open the door, and keep the record against the property so the next transfer is not starting from nothing.

What is the Home Passport?

It is the documented service history we keep for your address. Every visit, every part and every certificate is recorded against the property rather than on a technician's phone, so when the house is sold or something needs attention again, nobody is guessing about what was done or when. Most home electrical work in South Africa leaves no record beyond a handwritten invoice. See an example report.

Do you work in Somerset West and Strand as well?

Yes. Stellenbosch is home and most of our work is here, but we cover Somerset West, Strand and the surrounding Winelands. If you are not sure whether you are in range, phone and ask — we will tell you straight rather than quoting you and then not arriving.

Praat julle Afrikaans?
