A burglar bar has cracked loose
One bar has come away from the frame, or the whole frame has pulled off the wall.

A cracked burglar bar, a gate that drags, a door that will not close, and the list that has been on the fridge since March. We do general repairs and maintenance — and we bring the welder to your house rather than taking anything away.
heyhome does handyman repairs, maintenance and mobile welding repairs throughout Stellenbosch and the surrounding Winelands. That covers the ordinary things — doors, cupboards, fixtures, sealing, wall repairs — and the steel: cracked burglar bars, gates that drag, loose railings and rusted carport legs. The welder and generator travel on the vehicle, so the work happens at your house instead of in a workshop. Every job is quoted in writing before it starts and recorded in your Home Passport. Phone 077 293 6863.
We repair and maintain; we do not fabricate new gates, carports or burglar bars from scratch. That is deliberate — turning down fabrication work is what keeps us free to come out for a single cracked bar, which is the job most trades will not travel for.
Find the one that matches. It will not fix it, but it will tell you roughly what you are dealing with before anyone quotes you — which is the whole point.
One bar has come away from the frame, or the whole frame has pulled off the wall.
It scrapes the driveway, or the latch no longer lines up with the catch it used to.
The handrail shifts when you lean on it, or a baluster has gone loose at its base.
Rust bubbling at the base of an upright, or a visible hole where the leg meets the ground.
A door that sticks, a cupboard door hanging crooked, a curtain rail coming out of the wall.
Nine small things, not one of them worth a call-out on its own — so none of them get done.
Most homes need a handyman and a welder in the same month, and end up phoning neither because it is two calls, two quotes and two people to let through the gate. We arrive with both.
Doors that stick or have dropped, sagging cupboard doors, hinges, handles, drawer runners, locks and window catches. Shelving, TV mounts, curtain rails, blinds and mirrors put up properly.
Wall cracks patched and touched up, silicone renewed around baths, showers, basins and window edges, and gutters, downpipes and fascia cleared or re-fixed before the winter rain finds them.
Dripping taps and tap washers, toilet mechanisms, sticking windows, loose fixtures — the minor maintenance that is too small for a specialist and too fiddly to keep ignoring.
Cracked or loose burglar bars re-welded at the window, security gates and trellidoors re-welded and realigned. The house is never left open overnight waiting for a workshop.
Dropped hinges, cracked frames, broken brackets, damaged palisade panels — welded and realigned on site. If the gate motor is the problem rather than the gate, we do those too.
Loose handrails, balcony balustrades and staircase railings re-welded at the base; rusted-through carport legs, awnings and steel frames cut out and new steel welded in.
What we do not do: new fabrication. We will not build you a gate or a carport from scratch — for that, a fabrication shop is the right call. We repair, re-weld, realign and maintain what you already have, and we would rather tell you that up front than take the job and disappoint you.
The reason people put off calling someone is not the job. It is not knowing what it will cost, or whether the person arriving knows what they are doing.
Phone, WhatsApp a photo, or fill in the form. A list is welcome — you do not need the right words for any of it.
You hear the call-out fee and a time slot before we get in the vehicle. No vague "sometime today".
We find what is actually wrong and put the price in writing, parts and labour separated. Nothing starts until you say yes.
What was wrong, what we did, what to watch next. So next time nobody starts from zero.
Someone comes, something gets fixed, a handwritten invoice appears, and eighteen months later nobody can remember who did it, what they used, or whether the same crack has been patched twice. So the next person starts guessing — and you pay for the guessing.
We keep a documented service history for your home. Every visit, every part, every photo, recorded in your Home Passport. It is the same reason you would not accept a car with no service book.
See an example reportWhat was repaired, what was fitted, photographed before and after — kept against your address, not on a technician's phone.
Background-checked, uniformed, and they introduce themselves. You know who is arriving before they do — which matters more for work inside your home than any price.
If a job needs a second visit, that visit happens. Half-finished work and a technician who stops answering the phone is the thing we exist to be the opposite of.
A cracked burglar bar might be a twenty-minute re-weld or half a day of cutting out rusted steel, and anyone who quotes you before seeing it is guessing at your expense. What we can promise is that you will never be surprised:
Short, straight answers. No sales pitch hiding inside them.
We weld on site. The welder and generator travel on the vehicle, so burglar bars, gates, railings and carports are repaired where they stand. That matters most for burglar bars and security gates, because the house is never left open overnight waiting for a workshop to finish. Occasionally a badly damaged item really is better repaired off site, and we will say so before starting rather than afterwards.
In most cases yes. A bar that has cracked away from its frame, or a frame that has pulled loose from the wall, is re-welded in place and the paint made good afterwards. The window stays barred throughout. If the steel around the weld has rusted through rather than simply cracked, that section has to be cut out and a new piece welded in — still on site, just a longer visit.
No. We do repairs and maintenance, not new fabrication. If you want a new gate or carport built from scratch, a fabrication shop is the right place to go. What we do is the work those shops generally do not want: the single cracked bar, the gate that has dropped on its hinges, the railing that has gone wobbly. Saying no to fabrication is what keeps us available for the small repairs.
Yes, and that is largely the point. Most trades will not travel for a single cracked bar or a door that will not close, which is exactly why those jobs sit undone for months. The call-out fee is confirmed before we leave, and many customers use the visit to work through a whole list rather than a single item.
It depends on the work, and anyone quoting a figure before seeing it is guessing at your expense. We confirm the call-out fee before travelling, provide a written quote before starting, and do not begin work you have not approved. If the job turns out cheaper than quoted, you pay the cheaper number.
Yes. We do electrical, plumbing, gas and aircon work, and can issue the certificate that goes with it — an electrical Certificate of Compliance, a PIRB plumbing certificate, or a SAQCC Gas Certificate of Conformity. Some of that work is signed off by our own registered people and some by registered partners we work with regularly; either way the certificate comes to you through us. If a job needs a certificate, we say so on the quote up front rather than at the end.
Usually yes, and usually on site. A gate that drags has normally dropped on worn hinges, cracked a bracket, or bent where the frame meets the upright — all welding repairs. Worth knowing: if the gate itself is stiff or dragging, no gate motor will fix it, and an automated gate fitted to a dragging frame simply wears the motor out. We repair the motor side as well.
We aim to reach Stellenbosch homes within a day or two for general repairs reported during business hours, Monday to Friday. If it is a security problem — a burglar bar or security gate that has failed — say so when you call and we will prioritise the visit.
Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed, and they introduce themselves at the gate. You are told who is coming before they arrive. For work inside your home, that matters more than any price.
It is the documented service history we keep for your address. Every visit, every part and every photo is recorded against the property rather than on a technician's phone, so in two years' time nobody is guessing about what was done or when. Most home repair work in South Africa leaves no record at all. See an example report.
Yes. Stellenbosch is home and most of our work is here, but we cover Somerset West, Strand and the surrounding Winelands. If you are not sure whether you are in range, phone and ask — we will tell you straight rather than quoting you and then not arriving.
Ja, natuurlik. Ons span praat Afrikaans en Engels, en jy kan ons in albei tale bel of WhatsApp. Stuur gerus 'n foto van die probleem — dikwels kan ons sien wat fout is voordat ons daar aankom.
We are local. That is not a marketing line — it means the vehicle is already in town when you phone, not setting off from Cape Town.
Fill this in and we will come back to you — or phone if it is a security problem and you need someone today. A list of small jobs is welcome; that is what most people send.
